However, unlike the i7+ and other top-rated robots we test the i3+ does not have any obstacle-avoidance features which means it can get stuck on things like power cords or socks, and may have issues in navigating through transitions between surfaces like from hardwood to rug.

iRobot suggests that you clear areas that the i3+ EVO will vacuum before you use it, which includes getting rid of any clutter or toys it may come across. It's also recommended to keep the dust bin and filter clear so they aren't clogged by dirt. If the i3+ EVO's internal bin is full or the battery is empty it will return to its docking station, automatically empties its trash into the station's external dustbin and continues cleaning the area where it started. The i3+ EVO's battery can last for approximately an hour and a half continuous use. It takes around three hours to recharge.

2. IRobot Roomba i7+

The iRobot i7+ is an excellent model from iRobot's flagship line and is packed with the latest features. It's self-charging and self-navigating. -- the most important feature of all -- it has a self-emptying dustbin that eliminates one of the primary sources of maintenance for any robot vacuum.

The Roomba i7+ can keep up to 10 floor plans and their names with Imprint Smart Mapping, which allows it to map rooms so it can clean them more efficiently. It also integrates with iRobot Home to schedule cleaning jobs, and you can control your robot via the app or via voice.

The i7+ is quicker and more maneuverable in our tests compared to the eufy RoboVac G30. It also picked up large pet hair pieces from any surface including carpeting. Its greatest advantage over the Eufy is its self-emptying bin, which eliminates major sources of maintenance and reduces the cost of maintenance.

We were also impressed with the i7+’s compatibility with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant AI services. We used these services to instruct the robot to start, stop, or pause cleaning sessions, as well as to move around the room, and even vacuum a specific area. The iRobot Home App made it easy to connect the i7+ with these services. We were able, once connected, to voice commands to the i7+ like "Hey Alexa vacuum the master bedroom." The biggest issue with the V10 is its sluggish run time. Its marketing claims that it can provide up to 60 minutes of running time are a bit misleading as CR's tests show. This is an average, not an exceptional, time to run an electric cordless vacuum powered by batteries. That's still enough run time to clean most of a typical-sized home however, it's not enough to get every single area (though an additional run-through often can be effective). This model has its own advantages however: it's lighter and more maneuverable than older Dysons cordless models and its ability to vacuum is significantly better on low-pile floor carpet.

4. iRobot Roomba 694"

The 694 is a standard robot vacuum that's a great choice for those who don't have lots of money to invest in an expensive robot. It was able to pick up all kinds of debris in our testing and often went over the same area several times to ensure an efficient clean. Its flat front side helps it reach into corners and along the walls' edges which is a nice touch.

Its smart navigation system uses iAdapt technology to avoid obstacles and guide you through your home. However, it isn't equipped with the capabilities for mapping of more advanced models, like our top picks, i3+EVO and J7+ Series. It is prone to getting stuck on phone cords or low furniture and is often unable to supply power before returning to its home base.

The Xiaomi Mi robot is superior in many ways to the Roomba 694 because it has fewer components that require regular cleaning, is equipped with an allergen-trapping HEPA filtering system, incurs lower costs for recurring expenses and has more advanced automation abilities and can better move itself. It also has a bigger dustbin and charges faster.
