The Science Behind PRP

Microneedling and Mesotherapy

PRP, or platelet-rich plasma therapy, is a treatment that boosts healing, regeneration, and growth. It is a recognised treatment for hair loss.

PRP is a , involving drawing a small amount of blood, processing it in centrifuge to undergo a separation process, then injecting it into the affected area.

The separation process isolates a sample of the blood with a high concentration of platelets, growth factors and white blood cells – the platelet-rich plasma.

This plasma is administered to the scalp through microneedling, using ultra fine needles to make tiny punctures in the skin. This treatment increases blood supply to the hair follicles, which promotes hair growth and thickness.

Hair loss can occur when the body produces too much of the hormone dihydrotestosterone or DHT. 

High levels of DHT can overstimulate hair follicles, causing them to shrink. As a result, hair finer and lighter, eventually leading to hair loss.

Mesotherapy helps regulate DHT levels, allowing hair follicles to function normally again, and restoring hair growth.

PRP stands for plasma. Platelets are taken from the patient’s blood and spun in a centrifuge to isolate this plasma, which is then into the scalp using ultra fine needles. The treatment increases blood supply to the hair follicles, which promotes hair growth and thickness.

Provided it is administered by a medical professional, PRP is safe. As PRP is derived from the patient’s blood, there is minimal risk of rejection or complications.

Most patients see results within one to 6 months following treatment. The benefits are increased after 2 or 3 treatments..

There are minimal side . Some patients experience mild bruising, which resolves within a few days following treatment.

We advise that shampoos and hair products are avoided on the day you have your treatment, and don’t take a shower immediately after your treatment. However, taking a hot shower the day after the treatment promotes the effects of PRP.

Yes, mesotherapy is safe when administered by a reputable medical practitioner. It has minimal side effects.

The used are very fine, therefore patients tend to feel only a mild stinging sensation that quickly passes. If the treatment necessitates it, our practitioner will administer a topical numbing cream to minimise discomfort.

Side effects are generally mild and may include temporary soreness or bruising at the injection sites.

Following treatment, you should avoid intense exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcohol, for 24 hours. This helps to minimise risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the injection sites.

Results can vary, but many notice improvements within 2 to 3 sessions, but a full course of 6 treatments is for the optimal results.
