The first requirement for a traveller is accommodation and the guide says there "many good lodging houses" on the Burrows - the area roughly where today's Maritime Quarter and marina sits - and numerous public houses where "the stranger will experience the greatest civility and attention". However within a few decades of the book being published the Burrows, with its elegant bath houses and bathing machines, its ballroom and pleasure grounds, had been swept away and replaced with the South Docks - today's marina - as the town followed the path of industrialisation. The guide also notes bathing machines - covered carriages where the genteel bather could get undressed in private before being wheeled into the shallow for a discreet entry to the bay - are readily available and "the arrangements are under such regulations as to prevent imposition or incivility". The 1823 guide recommends a couple of Swansea bathing houses in the Burrows as being worthy of a visit with the warm sea water and vapour baths run by Mr Collard and by Miss Eveniss singled out.

One of the big attractions in town seems to have been the "Public Rooms" located in the Burrows. Meanwhile the ferry house, the base for the River Tawe ferry service, offers "good entertainment seasoned with civility" while the ferry itself would be useful if the visitor wanted to attend another attraction, local namely the two-mile long horse racing track over on Crymlyn Burrows. After crossing river the road west "lies through a region of colliers and is rather indifferent" while Llanelli is a "small and irregular town situated on a creek near the sea". Wind Street, the guide says, "is the most fashionable in town". A trip to Wind Street is on the list - a street described as "handsome and well-paved" with "several splendid and elegant shops in almost every branch of business". But there are three inns which are particularly recommended - the Mackworth Arms in Wind Street is described as "a house of very superior accommodation" which "ranks amongst the best in the Principality" while the Wheat Sheaf in nearby Castle Street offers "extensive and good accommodation for travellers and is much frequented".
