A group of prominent industrialists who feared such a revolution sent a petition to Paul von Hindenburg asking for Hitler to become Chancellor.

With a divided Reichstag, the power of the German President became more important. However, with the growth in SA violence and fearing a Nazi coup, Bruening banned the organization. In August 1931 the Nazi Party decided to have its own intelligence and security body.
