If you're looking to keep baby as close as possible at night, but not have to leave bed, a bedside crib is the ideal solution. The fabric's breathable design allows you to easily see your baby, and they're easy to lower for those bleary-eyed 3am feedings.

What is a bedside cot?

A bedside crib (also known as bassinet or co sleeper bedside cot-sleeper) is a small infant crib that can be attached to your adult bed, allowing your newborn to sleep safely next to you. This is a safe form of co-sleeping, which doesn't increase the risk of SIDS as bedsharing does. It also helps you bond with your new baby.

They have an end that can be adjusted to allow you to reach your baby easily at night to comfort and feed them. This is particularly helpful for mothers recovering from a c-section. Many of them are foldable or portable making them suitable for travel and as an interim solution for infants who aren't ready to move into a full-sized crib.

Look for a crib with a breathable mattress, and a protective cover that will protect your baby from stains. You'll also want to buy baby-safe items such as a blanket, a teether and a cuddly toy.

If you're looking for a long-term option, some cribs have conversion kits that allow you to turn them into a cot or toddler bed when the time comes. A gentle rocking motion can be activated by pressing the button. This will help soothe your baby to sleep with a gentle rhythm that doesn't disrupt their normal sleeping routine. This is perfect for older toddlers or babies who are having trouble settling down. It can also aid with digestive issues such as reflux and colic.

There are also 6 different height settings and an incline option that could help with congestion and reflux.

The Tutti Bambini COZee Air crib has a fabric that can be removed and a wipe-clean lining. This makes it much easier to clean than some bedside cribs that are messy to clean. Plus, it has a top bar that can be easily lowered to feed at night without having to fumble with zips in the dark.

Anna discovered that the CoZee could be a safe, comfortable sleeping space for her baby. She loved that it didn't rock like other models, which meant it didn't wake her up at night while she was trying to soothe her baby for feeds. She also loved that the side of the chair was lowered so she didn't need to reach over her partner to lift the child for nighttime feedings.

The Iora is a bassinet for the bed that allows parents to feel more connected to their infant as they sleep. It adjusts up and down and can be moved through three slide positions to fit next to the parent's bed, or in the corner of the room to ensure that your baby is within arm's reach. The mesh siding is breathable, allowing air to flow through, and gives you a quick glance at your little one. You can also keep additional pajamas or other items in the large basket beneath.

Unlike some other smaller bedside cribs The Iora folds flat and comes with a bag for travel to allow it to be carried anywhere. It was easy to move around from room to room, and our mum testers felt it was the right size for a bedside crib. They also liked the large storage basket that is ideal for storing spare bedding or nappies.

This is a great option for parents who wish to sleep together, but don't wish to share their bed. Also, if one of the partners has mobility issues, such as back pain or arthritis. Our mums who tested it loved that they could easily access their child in the Iora and that it included an option to have a reflux incline which helped to reduce gas.

Our mums appreciate that the mattress follows NICE guidelines. They recommend placing the baby in the Moses basket or crib on its own without toys, blankets, pillows etc. The mattress is also sturdy and comfortable for the baby, and sheets are easily available. It's not as light as the other cribs for bedside use however it is a good choice if you are looking for something lighter and easier to move around with, think about one of the other options in our list.
