Private ADHD Titration

There is a nationwide shortage of medication to treat ADHD symptoms. This is due to manufacturing issues and increased global demand.

Our service can provide private ADHD treatment as an alternative to waiting for NHS funding through Right to Choose. Our assessments cost include the cost of one prescription.

Titration

A thorough evaluation of your ADHD symptoms will be conducted by a highly experienced consultant psychiatrist. This will include a medical history and an assessment using the common ADHD rating scales and questionnaires.

Following your assessment you will be advised if medication is considered to be beneficial in your case. This will be discussed at your follow up appointment (which could be in person, via video link or by telephone). Your physician will go over the various medication options available. If you decide to start taking medication, we will offer you the opportunity to increase your dosage to optimize the benefits/side-effects balance for you.

This process may take a few weeks and it involves gradually altering your child's medication until the appropriate balance is reached. It is not uncommon to to adjust up to three different medicines before you can find the one that best fits your child's ADHD. It is essential for parents to be involved in this titration process and keep an eye on their child's behaviour so that they can inform the doctor if the medicine is helping or causing adverse effects.

If you decide to return to NHS care and have decided to return to NHS care, your medication will be given as an individual prescription that you'll need to pay for at the pharmacy (this is not included in the consultation fee). You will be required to attend six monthly appointments to monitor your medication, which includes pulse and blood pressure readings. Annual reviews are also required.

Follow-up appointments

After the evaluation is completed, you can schedule appointment with the psychiatrist. The appointment usually takes place on zoom video call, although in certain cases it might be possible to have an audio only consultation (again at an additional cost).

At this point we will discuss treatment options and come up with a unique adhd medication titration (click through the next post) strategy. This will include a discussion and review of your medication dose and any side effects you might be experiencing. The cost of these titration sessions is PS150 for face-to face sessions and PS60 for online or telephone video consultations. The pharmacy will charge you for any charges for medication.

We also recommend that you check whether your GP accepts a "Shared Care Agreement that means that once you are discharged from the clinic you will be returned to them for the prescription for the medication.

Medication

For many people who want an individual diagnosis of ADHD medication is a key part of their journey. It isn't easy to obtain prescriptions from psychiatrists on the NHS. NHS waiting lists are notoriously long and GPs may be reluctant to refer patients to specialist services.

One method to avoid this is to request your GP to refer you to Right to Choose (see psychiatry-uk and ADHD 360). This means that you can select one that provides an assessment and titration. This can help you reduce time and be more convenient, particularly if you have a busy work schedule.

If you are identified as a candidate for this treatment your chosen doctor will assess you and decide whether or not you need to be monitored for a dose of medication. You will need to fill out forms that differ by provider but the most frequent ones are self-reporting questions and medical histories going back to childhood and adulthood. These will help your clinician identify any conditions that could mean you shouldn't take ADHD medications if they are prescribed.

If you are titrated on medication, it what is adhd titration likely to include a mix of stimulants and non-stimulant drugs. This could cost more than an NHS prescription because the pharmacy will charge for the medication.
